I get the best chance in the world to see all the great calibers in action here every year. Anything you can call a caliber is seen or has been seen on the prairie dog hunts here in Texas.

All the calibers you mention the 22~250, 223, 6mm BR, 222 Remington and all the rest make a showing no doubt, but my all time favorite is the 243/backed up with a 70 grain Nosler BT.

This caliber will do 3,600 feet per second with a 70 gr and with the energy it has at 500, it's "smoking" when it plows the prairie dogs. Below is a picture of a dog shot at 500 and needless to say, he flipped several times for the side show!

Then energy at 500 yards at 3,300 ft per sec is 452 ft pounds of energy, so you can imagine at high velocity would be like and to Varget powder will do 3,600 out of most guns with 24 in barrel length. At 3300 ft per sec ,yes the wind at 10 mile hr is about 14~15 inch, but the 70 gr sure does the job when called on.
